Books were items that could be collected in DayZ. There are currently 145 of them that were fully readable, cover-to-cover, in-game. Books were removed as of 0.63 and are awaiting reimplementation.
A few blank pages could be torn out of each book you find for the purpose of writing notes or starting a fire.
