The Hacksaw is a type of equipment in DayZ.
Overview[]
A tubular frame Hacksaw, with a blade made of hardened steel, intended for cutting through wood and metal alike. It can be used to gather Planks, either from Lumber Piles available throughout the map, or by cutting up Wooden Logs.
As a bladed item, it can also be used to release a player from restraints, such as Duct Tape, Rope or Handcuffs.
It is analogous to the Hand Saw in the above functions, although its most prominent use, is in the creation of sawed-off variants of select weapons.
The Hacksaw can be used to saw off a section of the barrel of weapons like the BK-12, BK-18, BK-43, the Blaze, or even the veritable Mosin 91/30.
The Sawed-Off variants of those firearms are less accurate and deal slightly less damage, but are much shorter in length, making them both easier to fit in an inventory, and handle in tight quarters combat.
The outlier among the sawed-offs is the LE-MAS, with its modified variant removing the plating around its iron sights, greatly improving the shooter's field of view
