Single-handed bladed tool with a hammer head on one side. Except for chopping wood, it has a wide array of uses. In-game description
The Hatchet is a bladed melee weapon and multipurpose tool in DayZ.
The Hatchet functions as both a melee weapon and a tool for construction purposes. In the latter regard, the Hatchet is exceptionally versatile and can be used in the construction of a Base. The Hatchet can be used to gather Wood Logs from trees and to assemble Fences or Watchtowers. As a sharp tool, it can also be used in various tasks such as opening canned food or tearing clothing to Rags.
The Hatchet's efficiency as a melee weapon is average. The Hatchet offers a relatively unimpressive rate of damage with a fast attack time. However, the versatility and utility factors associated with the Hatchet for construction often mean players will avoid using it for attacking unless totally necessary, as to conserve condition.
Notes[ | ]
- Players on PC will notice the Hatchet cannot be stored in the melee weapon slot. Instead, it consumes valuable space in the player's inventory.
- Like in the real world, the butt-end of the Hatchet functions as the face of a hammer. It is because of this feature that the Hatchet can be used like a Hammer in the assembly of Fences and Watchtowers.
- The Hatchet can be repaired using Sharpening Stones.
