Semi-automatic pistol, fed from a detachable magazine. Produced in large quantities. Uses standard .380 Auto rounds. In-game description

The IJ-70 is a semi-automatic handgun chambered in .380 ACP. Commonly found around towns and villages in Chernarus, this is often a survivor's first firearm.

Overview[]

The IJ-70 is a small, compact, light-weight, double-stacked magazine variant based on the Soviet IJ-70-17A pistol. Largely considered an early-game or "tier 1" weapon, the IJ-70 is chambered in .380 ACP which is fed from a 12-round detachable magazine. Being chambered in .380 ACP, the IJ-70 has a relatively low range and not much stopping power at 21 damage. Although it will most often kill a infected in 1 headshot, they may take several body shots to go down. The IJ-70's use of the less powerful cartridge does have the benefit of very minimal recoil allowing you to make fast follow-up shots at a max fire-rate of 450rounds/min. Already a relatively quiet firearm, the addition of a Pistol Suppressor or Plastic Bottle Suppressor makes the IJ-70 almost inaudible past 100m. The other benefit of chambering .380 rounds is relative abundance of it, being one of the most common ammo types in the game means a survivor will rarely find themselves low of bullets for an IJ-70, the magazines are also relatively common even in residential looting zones making the IJ-70 one of the most reliable early game weapon choices until survivors can stock up on larger ammo types.

In combat, the IJ-70 is best used as a close-range defensive weapon. Its compact size and light-weight give the IJ-70 a high dexterity, allowing it to be swung left and right rapidly while aimed down sight. Combined with its low recoil, the IJ-70 can be an extremely effective weapon in close-quarters combat. This effectiveness quickly evaporates, however, as the distance between the user and the target increases. The low range and stopping power of the .380 ACP cartridge combined with the poor accuracy of pistols beyond 50m means that switching to another firearm is almost always a better option, if the survivor can locate enough ammo for other guns.
