This is the carbine version of the AK-74, the successor to the AKM. Often known as the 'Krinkov,' the AKS-74U entered service in 1979 and was widely used during the Soviet War in Afghanistan. It is still in use today around the world. It was also used by the Chernarussian Defence Forces (CDF) before the infection.

Overview[ | ]

The AKS-74U is the shortest assault rifle in the game, comparable in length to the MP5A5, making it an easy weapon to handle in close quarters. The sights are arguably better than the full size AK-74, but the spread of this weapon is far greater. The main downside of the AKS-74U is it's low damage and limited accuracy, doing only about 2722 damage at the muzzle and with a maximum range of 250-300m. For this reason, it is advisable to take a full-sized AK-74 over the AKS-74U in most scenarios, unless you plan on staying inside cities.

Still, the AKS-74U is far superior to any sub machine-gun that can be found in Chernarus, and like the AK-74, ammunition is plentiful, and the weapon itself is easy to find in Fire Stations and military areas. It can be an excellent zombie killer, especially when fitted with a Suppressor.

Ammunition[ | ]

Like the AK-74, the AKS-74U only accepts AK-74 Magazines, and it will NOT accept 75-round RPK-74 mags or AK-47M Magazines.
