Introduction[ | ]
The Colt Model 1911 (M1911) is a relatively common pistol featured in DayZ. It uses M1911 Magazines, which may be found almost anywhere. Its ammunition is interchangeable with the Revolver, as the two both use .45 ACP. However, the M1911 magazine holds 7 rounds and the Revolver holds six. This means that converting a full M1911 magazine to a revolver speedloader will discard one round, and also that converting a full revolver speedloader to an M1911 magazine will result in an M1911 Mag with 6/7 shots.
In the game, the M1911 and the Revolver use the same yellow box model for ammunition. If one looks closely it can be seen that M1911 ammunition has a green mark, whereas revolver ammunition has a red mark. Remember, ammunition can be combined and shared between the two weapons.
Practicality[ | ]
Though the M1911 has the same power and audibility as the Revolver, it is much more difficult to use at range - its sights are bulky and usually fail to line up correctly. Due to this handicap, the M1911 is usually best used without aiming down the sights (ADS) or at very close range. But, as it is a pistol, it is more easily handled indoors than most any long weapon.
As it boasts .45ACP rather than 9mm Luger, the M1911 is the most powerful sidearm in the game, along with the revolver. However, it has a low magazine capacity when compared to weapons such as the M9, G17, and PDW. As with any sidearm (all suffer a great lack of power), it is best to attempt a headshot on an unsuspecting player - otherwise, it is best to fire into their center of mass as much as possible.
In many PVP situations, the operator will be in greater danger using the M1911 rather than another weapon due to its low capacity and inferior sights.
