The Fabrique Nationale Mark 48 is a Belgian-American lightweight belt-fed medium machine gun, firing 7.62×51mm NATO cartridges from a disintegrating belt of ammunition. This variant has an Aimpoint CompM4 and is painted woodland camouflage.
The Mk 48 is one of the best finds in Day Z. The extremely high per-shot damage, paired with the clear, open sight and large magazine capacity makes it a force to be reckoned with in a firefight. If you are ambushed, spraying some rounds towards your attacker(s) can send them running for cover, potentially buying you enough time to get to a safe location. A single hit can be lethal to players, so treating the Mk 48 like an assault rifle and firing on semi-auto or in short bursts is very effective.
It is advisable to fire the Mk 48 Mod 0 in short bursts of 3-5 shots to reduce muzzle climb and conserve ammunition. Prolonged fire leads to lessened accuracy and uncontrollable sway, however being prone eliminates all sway and most recoil allowing for long bursts which are great for taking out or disabling cars and helicopters.
This weapon fires the same 7.62 ammo as the DMR, M24, M240, and FN FAL, thus making its effective range much farther than the M249 SAW. The Mk48 ammunition contains red tracer rounds, which can give your position away to other survivors.
