===The Stars=== At night, it can be hard to orientate, which makes it more difficult to know which direction you're walking. Finding '''Polaris''', AKA the '''" North Star"''', is the most obvious and reliable way to find your direction of travel in the dark. While the night sky will rotate and move as you as time passes, Polaris will always point north and finding it will give you a solid reference point when you don't have a compass. It's best to start by finding the '''Ursa Major''' constellation, AKA the '''"Big Dipper"''', one of the brightest constellations. When you find it, draw a line between the two stars at the front of the constellation. Follow it and you will find Polaris, which also marks the "handle" of the '''Ursa Minor''' constellation, AKA the '''"Little Dipper"'''. It's a very big and very bright star, so finding it shouldn't be too hard if the sky isn't filled with clouds. Face Polaris and you will be facing north. <gallery mode=packed heights=500> North Star 2.png | A diagram of the process explained above - marked as follows: Polaris (red), Ursa Major (green), Ursa Minor (yellow), guideline to find Polaris from Ursa Major (dashed cyan). </gallery> <gallery mode=packed heights=500> North Star.jpg | Unedited image for comparison (Note - it may be benefitial to open the images in a new tab by hovering over them and pressing the middle mouse button). </gallery>
