The Pioneer is a rifle in DayZ. It was introduced in the 1.12 Experimental patch on 1st April 2021.
Overview
The Pioneer is a unique rifle because it has a detachable box mag and flip-up iron sights, but can also accept any optic which fits on a picatinny rail.

Weapon attachments are any accessories or devices that attach to a firearm in order to add, improve or modify the weapon's functionality or performance. In DayZ Standalone these attachments take the form of sights/optics, handguards, buttstocks, muzzle devices, barrel and handguard attachments and gun wraps.

- The rifle seems to be based on its real life counterpart Steyr Scout Rifle, and is referenced as such in the files. The Steyr Scout notably has a functional bipod built into the body, however this is currently not functional in-game. Using admin tools to spawn the Scout in Alpha 0.62, however, an option was functional to deploy the bipod legs.
- The Pioneer was previously shown as a work-in-progress on Feb 16, 2016.
- The Pioneer was previously found in the files to be chambered in .308 Winchester, but was changed to 5.56mm at some point during patch 0.61. Additionally the rifle was also previously found in the files to have green furniture, whereas the final weapon is only in a more-muted black. The bolt handle was also changed from the early 'butterknife' to the enlarged round tip sometime before full release.
- The two map-specific variations of the base weapon feature small metal decorations with either a Chernarussian coat of arms or Livonian police emblem engraved. The base model has smooth decorations. These are also not featured on the real life counterpart of the rifle.
- The Pioneer namesake may originate from YouTuber Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons' popular video on the real world rifle, in which he compares the Steyr Scout to an early U.S frontiersman's rifle in its use cases, and a possible synonym of frontiersman is a pioneer.[1]
