The Plate Carrier is a vest found in DayZ.
It provides any Survivor wearing it strong ballistic protection, at the cost of inherent carrying capacity and stamina due to its heavy weight. This vest can be equipped with Pouches to allow for 24 slots of space and a Holster for the storage of any handgun - making it a valuable asset to acquire.
The standard plate carrier can only be found on military Infected, however unique variants can be found in Chernarus and Livonia - the black and green variants can only be found in the Underground Bunker in Livonia, and the camo variant is only found in military areas in Chernarus.

- The Plate carrier has received a strong buff in version 1.12, increasing protection and durability. Before the update it was possible to die from a single powerful shot that hit at the right angle and spot. Now the plate carrier protects the survivor much better. Taking multiple hits on the vest now results in being knocked out, rather than the survivor dying. Also, taking a hit from a high caliber round will make the player stagger for a moment and cause them to make a similar animation as if they were hit by a heavy melee attack. For comparison, before it only took ~4-5 shots from 5.56mm rounds to die with the vest equipped, now it takes ~9-10 5.56mm rounds. However, if the player becomes unconscious, they might probably be killed during that time, if they do not have anyone to protect them.

- The Plate Carrier was previously known as the Ballistic Vest and was removed in a prior version of the game. It was added again in the 0.54 update.
