The RAK-37 is a submachine gun in DayZ, re-added to the game in the 1.28 Experimental Patch.

Overview[]

The RAK-37 is a fully automatic submachine gun, chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge. Fed from detachable 15rnd and 25rnd magazines.

The second .380 ACP – chambered SMG, alongside the CR-61 Scorpion, the RAK-37 excels as a close-range bullet hose, and works best against unarmored targets, due to the low power of the .380 ACP cartridge.

In comparison to the Scorpion, the RAK-37 performs slightly worse in terms of damage, accuracy and muzzle velocity, whilst having a small advantage in ammo capacity and reload speed.

The RAK-37 also features an unusual open-bolt configuration, where its pistol-like slide is locked to the rear position when the firearm is cocked and moves forward when the trigger is pulled. This makes it the first firearm in the game to make use of an open-bolt design.

The bolt design also makes it impossible to fire the weapon without a magazine inserted – it cannot be single-loaded, and the weapon is permanently in full-auto mode.

The iron sights possess a fixed zero of 50m.

Attachments[]

The RAK-37 cannot equip any attachments, due to its unusual upper receiver and consequent barrel design. The only ‘diversity’ allotted to it is a choice between a 15-round and a 25-round magazine.

Statistics[]

Detailed information about the rifle can be found on Wobo's website.

Trivia[]

  • Before its re-implementation in Experimental 1.28, the weapon was originally named the PM73 RAK, based on the real-world, Polish, PM-63 RAK Submachine Gun.
  • It was added to the game files in 0.47, first spawning in 0.48 at the Static Helicopter Crash Sites, and was the second sub-machine gun added in DayZ.
  • The PM73 RAK was removed in Beta 0.63 and awaited reimplementation until its return as the RAK-37 in Experimental 1.28.
  • The PM73 RAK originally had a semi-auto operating mode, but this has been removed upon its re-implementation. The ability to chamber singe rounds was also removed to better reflect the open-bolt design.
