It lacks the magnification and stability of binoculars, but makes up for it by its ability to precisely measure long range distances.In-game description
The Rangefinder is a distance-measuring optical device in DayZ. It allows the operator to measure a distance between them and the target spot, determining the distance to it within 1m accuracy. It is commonly used by snipers or sniper teams (a sniper and a spotter) for the purpose of zeroing the optics on their weapons for long range engagements.
Rangefinders require power via a 9V Battery. Once powered, hold the left mouse button and you should zoom in. A red number bottom right of your cross-hair shows the measured distance (see Gallery section).
The Rangefinder consumes 0.01 energy per second and therefore consumes one battery every 83 minutes of active use.
Trivia[ | ]
- During versions 0.59 and 0.60, the Rangefinder was unable to measure distances beyond 6 meters and always resulted in a reading of "6 m" (ground) or "7 m" (sky). Even under 6 meters there are inconsistencies. This rendered the item almost useless. This was fixed in the 0.61 update.
