The gun is based on the East-German "Scharfschützengewehr 82", SSG82 in short, by "Fahrzeug- und Jagdwaffenwerk Ernst Thälmann in Suhl". It was used by the state police for counter terrorist purposes. The SSG82 was the result of an order made by STASI chief Erich Mielke. The rifle fires a relatively small caliber compared to other sniping rifles of that era, the M74 cartridge.
