Template:Icon Important

I created a simple homepage where links are grouped. Design is not my thing, but this looks a lot better then a simple list --Grezvany13 08:03, 11 May 2012 (MDT)

Frontpage layout[]

I changed the layout and have made it 'easier' to edit the contents. To change text on the frontpage then edit: DayZ:FP_Text.

Please comment! - sEi (Talk) 02:36, 22 May 2012 (MDT)

Still needs work (design wise) and could be more efficient. Currently I'm looking at the system which MediaWiki uses at their FP (Template:Main_Page/include), which means it's even more dynamic by splitting each part as a sub-template.
I'm currently testing this offline, and will return the outcome when ready. We also might start looking for a nice skin to use, or build one ourselfs. - Grezvany13 02:49, 22 May 2012 (MDT)
Sounds nice - focus should be on accessibility for non coders - sEi (Talk) 04:39, 22 May 2012 (MDT)

Setup, idea and templates can be found at User:Grezvany13/sandbox. Feedback please ;) - Grezvany13 08:34, 22 May 2012 (MDT)

Looks very nice indeed - (as expected) i have some minor comments - Better catch you on steam - sEi (Talk) 05:47, 23 May 2012 (MDT)

Super formatting you have on the example. Great work.

I have theese comments:

  • dont use the "----" in the top text cell/div
  • Add a bottom header (footer ,) like you can see in my 'layout' below
  • Add redBIGHeaderBg: [1] as background image to the Header and the Footer cell/div.
  • Add redHeaderBg: [2] as background image to heading cell/div on the menus that gets inserted.
  • If the red fade images is NOT used as background then i think having pitch black headings is to dark whith current page packground!

| Top text |

If the above was implemented imo it would be ready to put on the Frontpage!

pls Comment... - sEi (Talk) 10:18, 23 May 2012 (MDT)

I've been playing with the images, and for some reason I don't like it ;) So I've been playing with the colors and gradients (since it is a nice idea) and came up with the following: [3]
This is 100% CSS and I've used the "custom CSS" option from Mediawiki (setting in LocalSettings.php) for testing. However, it could easily be added to the newly build theme.
Using a gradient behind the lists is IMHO a bad idea, since it becomes very hard to read (especially for color blind people), so I added the borders to mark the different areas.
All other texts (like bottom text) can be added without a problem; just create a new template, a new region and add them to the main template. - Grezvany13 12:02, 23 May 2012 (MDT)
Perfect with the css gradients. (yes and only in headers and the footer) - What about the 33% for the 3 columns? The current banner is a placeholder for future text... - It should only be the front page using the red gradients, it would not be nice if the default tables in the wiki had these gradients ,). Contact Eikoms for changes that needs to be done with LocalSettings.php - good work - sEi (Talk) 17:30, 23 May 2012 (MDT)
Right now I use unique css classes for these blocks, so no other table or block will have these gradients unless you use the templates for them or set the correct classes manually.
I'll try to fix some minor things and then send all the required files to Eikoms by mail (if possible), which simply is some extra stuff at the CSS. - Grezvany13 02:49, 24 May 2012 (MDT)

Items?[]

Well, where should i place Wood under? I think we need to redo all ingame items under an "Items" group or something...!?! VariousArtist 10:53, 22 May 2012 (MDT)

I suggest under Loot, which actually is something like "all other in-game items without a clear category" ;) - Grezvany13 10:48, 22 May 2012 (MDT)
Nevermind... I'll make a new category Items, which will contain these items (including map, knife, matches, etc) - Grezvany13 10:50, 22 May 2012 (MDT)
Or Equipment ;) - Grezvany13 10:56, 22 May 2012 (MDT)
SOLVED (placed Equipment) - sEi (Talk) 05:48, 23 May 2012 (MDT)

Vehicle repair Guide[]

I never did that so far, but a vehicle repair guide would be so awesome, wouldnt it? - VariousArtist 06:09, 23 May 2012 (MDT)

Right side interactive map[]

Is there a way to get the fullscreen version of this map?

I've tried that one in the maps session, but it doesn't have all the markers this one does. --Oliva 13:51, 11 June 2012 (MDT)

We're still working on the markers for the interactive map (or at least SEi is). This might take some time, since there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of markers to be added. If you want to help, contact SEi and he'll be happy to explain how to help. - Grezvany13 14:29, 11 June 2012 (MDT)
Ye - but making the marker coords is not the hard point. I am developing 'behind the scenes' and will launch city markers soon. Later all kinds of markers - but i have to code the control system and the UI before 'just' putting a lot of different markers on a map ;) - sEi (Talk) 14:36, 11 June 2012 (MDT)

ARMA Beta[]

I think we are on the point of overhauling the "Install DayZ" page: [Rocket about 1.7.1] - Leucetius 04:24, 12 June 2012 (MDT)

OMG is rocket fast! The Line of Sight (LOS) command was included yesterday and he has it in the (not released) 1.7.1 already. This explains, why the Beta patch will be needed. I'm about to start a party right now xD - Leucetius 14:33, 12 June 2012 (MDT)

1.7.0.0[]

I see the wiki is updated to 1.7.0.0 not even 1.7.0 only - But i cannot see any changelog. - So we should keep the versioning to versions we have a changelog to. or? - sEi (Talk) 08:20, 12 June 2012(MDT)

The latest/current version is 1.7.0 and so is (most of) our content. Even though the changelog is "empty", it had server side changes but undocumented. The version at the FP should state the version we currently have discribed and nothing else. So when a new update comes around (which is almost every week!), we should check the changelog, change the content when needed and then update the FP to the new version. It might take some work, but only then it's correct - Grezvany13 08:35, 12 June 2012 (MDT)

MediaWiki Theme[]

I put this together if you folks are interested. Not sure if you would have troubles getting your existing content to work with a dark #content background. Design decisions obviously aren't set it stone, and I would love to hear feedback if this is something that the admins would consider implementing. Fantikerz 07:30, 24 June 2012 (MDT)

Looks 'nice' - But we have debated that we keep the 'light' skin as reading much text on a dark background is a pain. Also not using the red color (even for valid links! - usually red links mean 'not existing') because red/green color blind people (like me) have trouble reading it. - But it sure looks very good. If it's possible to have a skin like yours (-red links) ONLY on the front page, and keeping the 'light' skin on subpages. Then that would be something to work on! - PS: You do very nice work in the wiki! - Cheers sEi (Talk) 07:42, 24 June 2012 (MDT)
I also been fidling with adding some 'gradients' to the headings. [4] (I admit that the red color belongs to the game somehow, and i can 'accept' it being used wisely if used.) - sEi (Talk) 07:48, 24 June 2012 (MDT)
The trick is to make a light skin with elements (even red!) that fits the game' theme. The users come here to read text so the body text should be displayed dark on a light background! - sEi (Talk) 07:51, 24 June 2012 (MDT)
I think in the case of DayZ it's important to remain consistent with the current branding - which is that red/gray on black. It alienates visitors less, especially if they're familiar with the official site. But in the end it always comes down to personal preference. I myself would rather have a light wiki, but if polled, I think many users would choose a darker version. It also helps that light text on dark is much easier on the eyes in situations where there's little/no ambient light. If done correctly, light (not white!) text on a dark (not black!) background can be just as readable. There are many UX studies out there, and the general consensus is that there's no definitive "better" way. Again, all personal preference and purpose.
. Still believe that the alternative is streets ahead, but you're the admins. Fantikerz 09:35, 24 June 2012 (MDT)
Looking at
  • Image for 'offsite' links should not be red
  • To somehow get some 'red' in where it's not 'hard to read' for colorblind folks. Then you could try something like tested in [5] (the gradients) or would that look bad with the red there?
  • The red headings in left menu is nice and ok!
  • Maybe try to use the [6] as changing the logo for the wiki should be a slow process as it's very much part of 'our' brand.
  • I find the left menu's background a little too dark.
  • The "Welcome to..." heading should be like 'the other headings'
  • The links in the bottom should not be red
  • The user-links in the top looks ok if only the username is red
The above is just plain feedback with no filter from my (pro) experience making web design. BUT it's just my personal opinions and the fact that i am an admin in the wiki should not matter at all.
If it wasn't for the too dark bg i would vote for this skin right away and then just fix what i mentioned above along the way. - Indeed very nice work there.
Cheers sEi (Talk) 10:22, 24 June 2012 (MDT)
And using dark background left and top could be used like this kind of: [7] but tweaked to harmonize and implemented the suggestions i made in the bullet list above. - sEi (Talk) 10:36, 24 June 2012 (MDT)

Official Wiki?[]

on the new dayz homepage is a "Wiki coming soon" banner at the community subpage. i suppose we wont be the official one or does anyone know some rumors about that?--TheBlackDracula (talk)

Proper Category pages[]

I was looking around this wiki, and I noticed that the category links just redirect to a page (eg: Weapons, but what if it was set up something like this?: [8] —This unsigned comment is by El Barto 227 (wallcontribs) 23:54, 8 July 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Hello there ! I don't know, that's a good point and we'd just have to take some writings of the first one you linked and get them copied on the second one. Will wait for a few more opinions to pop out. Pellksar (talk) 01:23, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Page for the DayZ standalone[]

Why isn't there a page for the DayZ standalone; while I'm at it, why isn't there also one on the mod as well? - Gesundheit (talk) 22:11, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

The standalone is just going to be a continuation of the mod right? So then there should be no reason to have "specific pages" unless we need one to explain how the standalone will work when it comes out. Right?
This entire wiki is dedicated to the mod, and therefore the standalone when it is released. - Smokie (talk) 01:07, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Gesundheit, did you try searching for Dayz Standalone? You would have found this http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Dayz_Standalone. Mind you, I'm not sure it's linked to from anywhere? 101.119.18.99 01:19, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Forgot that someone did that. It's linked to from the main page now. - Smokie (talk) 05:31, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
I ain't just someone hehPlanky (talk) 11:36, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Andrewjn made a Dayz Standalone page.
I'd like to apologize. I had searched up DayZ and Day Z, expecting some kind of redirect. Whoops. - Gesundheit (talk) 00:44, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Also, is there an infobox on this wiki? I tried to insert one in on the page, but it's not allowing me to. - Gesundheit (talk) 00:47, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey team, the chernarus map isn't working - dead link mate.

Works for me... - Planky (talk) 10:55, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Question about energy/water/nutrition values of food[]

If it sais for example a canteen gives you 1000 water, is it the whole canteen giving you 1000 water or one swig of the canteen?

Also a suggestion: to properly judge wich food is best to raise your energy level you'd have to look at the energy/volume ratio, because you can stuff yourself with tuna and still don't reach the healthy state. It would be really nice to have a sortable table of all foods that contains values like energy/volume, water/volume and nutrition/volume. —This unsigned comment is by 91.52.81.220 (wallcontribs) 09:32, 15 January 2014. The Unoffical Guide site is down and for sale now[]

Please remove the link. It's only a matter of time, until it will become a virus spreading hellhole.

Can anyone with the appropriate rights please remove this link? --LittleHelper321 (talk) 03:51, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Mosin[]

So, since I spraypainted my Mosin it only lets me chamber a single bullet. please adress this problem ASAP.

Spanish translation[]

Hello! I'm contributing with the Spanish translation of the game and I wanna request a Spanish translation at the Wiki, could it be possible? :)

Layout and Style[]

Do we really need "The DayZ Wiki/Archive 1 is a piece of [xyz] in DayZ." at top of every page? I think the best layout would be:

  • Ingame description (As Quote)
  • What does this item (Hard information)
  • Trivia (Interesting/funny facts)
  • Galery (Images of variants or of item in use)

I would like to try some nicer and more clear layouts for some categorys. Is there a way I can do it without messing around with the current one? --LittleHelper321 (talk) 03:51, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

you can use your user page as test area, but looking over your edits over the last few hours it looks like you've forged ahead. Great work! Pl4nky (talk) 15:04, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
I have some nice concepts in mind for the Consumable/Equipment/Clothes categories. I'll do some prototyping on my page in the next days. Then you can decide :) --LittleHelper321 (talk) 15:30, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Glossary[]

I think it'd be useful for new players if the wiki had a glossary page with simple explanation of terms that they are likely to be confronted with in game. As examples what is a Bambi? What is zeroing? And also things like for example "Hunger - a hidden value that is affected by consumption of food" that also could link back to any full article as well. —This unsigned comment is by 94.3.95.65 (wallcontribs) 21:58, 8 February 2014. Captcha Shit[]

I verified my email today and now I have to solve captchas every few edits? Before verification I was not bothered with them?! Why the hell must a user with a verified email solve stupid captchas and a user without a verified email is never bothered with them?? I'm so fuckin annoyed by them I really thinking about leaving this wiki...

We apologize for the inconvenience. This had nothing to do with your verification. This was a temporary situation due to some technical difficulties and should be resolved now. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig 20:40, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks man. It freaked me out --LittleHelper321 (talk) 20:53, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

New Clothing layout[]

NOTE: I changed my username from LittleHelper321 to RocknRolla7. Hi, I've done the changes to the infoboxes for Backpacks and Clothes (see: BeanieHat and others). More to come (see: User:RocknRolla7). Now I would like to suggest a change to the Clothing page itself. My proposal is this WIP Layout. What do you think? Do you have improvement suggestion? In case of approval I will create a template to place the icons with the name below to make it easier to add new items. --RocknRolla7 (talk) 19:39, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
