== Life of a bus driver ==

I don"t know if this belongs here, but my story may give other bus drivers a little insight about problems operating this bus or make them laugh.

So, me and a friend found a bus in a valley, surrounded by trees. It was missing all its tires, battery, glowplug and headlights so we started running around the close cities to find all the parts needed. After fixing everything, we started the engine with wonderful joy, but we were soon stopped by a rock, the bus spawned upon. Aware that the game we play is dayz, we tried to figure out which bugs may catapult the bus away from the pesky stones. After a while, placing an oil barrel under the bus and afterwards starting the motor, seemed like a good idea to us. It worked, the bus jumped one meter in the air and broke free from his natural prison. Now set free, we tried to go uphill and learned how to switch gears to finally reach the dirttrack which would lead us to the northern part of the map. But on a cartway, the transit bus seemed to have even less traction, so going up even small slopes was denied to us. We turned and headed to the coast and Svetlojarsk. The bus felt awesome, it was driving smooth and steady, turn weren't a problem and we soon reached maximum speed, which was frightening.

We decided to head for the small unnamed village in the northeast of Turovo, but a steep road stopped our efforts. Driving a bus for a long time, makes you kind of numb, its loud and straight ahead, so it was no wonder we crashed a lantern at full speed while having a good talk about zombies.

We were in shock, both front tires where ruined, we shouted, screamed and prayed, but the bus wouldn't move. It was time for our spare double wheel in the back of the bus. Splitting the wheel required some strong force with a crow bar, but it worked in the end. We were betrayed again, our splitted double wheel started fleeing and rolled down the hill and away from our crippled bus. Again, our abilities were tested and we mastered the category "Downhill Wheel Chasing" and luckily got our wheels back. After dismounting the old wheels with a log wrench, we fixed our mighty bus and were back on the roud.

Transit Bus, or 'party bus' is a vehicle in DayZ Standalone. Some players may use this to provide transportation between the cities of Chernarus.

Refueling

You can refuel the transit bus via the fuel cap on the right rear of the bus. With a full tank you can drive around the map approximatly two times. Refuel it with a gasoline canister or anything else that contains gasoline.

Tires

The transit bus' wheels are extremely prone to damage from crashing. If you e.g. ram a lantern at full speed, both front tires will be ruined which you then need to replace with new ones. You can mount tires without a tool, but you need a log wrench to dismount them. Also tire repair kits really come in handy. Double tires can be splitted with a crowbar but single tires can not be merged to a double wheel. Watch out while splitting double wheels, they tend to start rolling around so only split them in a safe area, else you may end up chasing tires from Pusta to Elektro.

Battery

The transit bus needs a truck battery which you can mount without tools, but dismounting requires a wrench. A bus will still run with a ruined battery, if it was installed in a better condition.

Glow plug

As for the battery, the bus runs with a ruined glow plug. Don't try to use spark plugs, the only work for cars

Doors and the Hood

These parts of the bus currently don't spawn, but players and zombies cannot enter the bus except with the "f" functions even without doors.

Driving

Driving the bus is really comfortable, because it turns in a nice way, drives very stable if all tires are damaged or better and acclerates slow but steady. Try to use roads as often as possible, it looses traction on grass and small forest roads, so you can't go uphill. That also means, once you dropped in a riverbed or sth. like that, its really hard to get out. The bus has one four forwards gears, one neutral position and a backwards gear.

Known Bugs

  • Changing tires may move the bus and kill you
  • When stuck, placing a barrel under the bus and starting the motor, sometimes moves it so you can start driving.
  • One person can't move it and glitches around, while another person may be able to normally operate it
  • Sometimes, even small collisions may damage the engine, a server restart will autorepair engine problems
  • Zombies won't be killed by a collision, players will.
  • Businventory...don't get me started
  • Sometimes, tires appear to be missing, but they aren’t, a relog will fix this.

Vehicle Parts

The following parts are necessary to get the Transit Bus operational, as of v0.59:

The following parts are optional, but recommended for the safety of vehicle occupants:

Trivia
