The VS-89 is a bolt-action sniper rifle in DayZ. It was added in the 1.25 Experimental Patch.

Overview[]

The VS-89 is a bolt-action sniper rifle chambered for the 7.62x54mmR full-power cartridge, and fed from 10-round detachable box magazines. By far the most accurate rifle in the game, capable of high damage output at extreme ranges.

Among its peers, like the Mosin 91/30 or the CR-550 Savanna, the VS-89 displays better damage retention at range, and better muzzle velocity. It is, however, notoriously heavy, being almost 50% heavier than the Mosin, and over twice the weight of the CR-550.

It is also the longest rifle in the game, at 1.2 meters long, making it woefully unsuitable for any sort of close-range engagement, and causing issues when aiming through windows.

Attachments[]

Its main selling point is the ability to equip all the western Picatinny Rail-compatible scopes. From the simple Baraka Sights, all the way to the Marksman Scope, the VS-89 can use it.

In addition to the scopes mentioned above, the VS-89 can attach a Ghillie Rifle Wrap, and a Plastic Bottle Suppressor.

Trivia[]

  • The firearm is based on the real-world SV-98 (Snaiperskaya Vintovka Model 1998) which is manufactured by JSC Kalashnikov in Izhevsk.
