Overview[ | ]
The VSS is a late game integrally-suppressed select-fire marksman rifle. It is only obtainable from Helicopter Crash Sites, Contamination Zones, Military Bunkers, or other survivors. With the benefit of being integrally suppressed and firing sub-sonic 9x39mm and 9x39mm AP cartridges, this rifle, along with the SVAL, is the quietest stock rifle in the game. The SVAL is only audible up to 200m and there will be no bullet crack when shooting at other survivors. The rifle is best suited for ranges up to 150m, but the range can be extended with the ATOG Scope. The iron-sights is zeroed at 160m and is canted to the left side of the rifle. With the ability to equip all Russian Optics, it has access to the Kobra, P1-87-L, PSO-1/PSO-1-1 and 1PN51 NVG sights. With the access to the 1PN51 NVG optic, it makes the VSS suitable for night time gunfights. The VSS and its counterpart can be fed using 10rd VSS Mags or the 20rd SVAL Mags, but can also be chambered by using a single 9x39mm or 9x39mm AP round. The 9x39mm/9x39mm AP rounds that the VSS uses are rare and have a low muzzle velocity.
