Wound Infection is a character effect in DayZ Standalone. Wound Infection is caused by letting your wounds heal themselves, which takes 5 minutes, or has a chance to occur if you use undisinfected rags, bandage or Sewing Kit. You will get the bacteria icon on your status bar once you have been infected.
Stage 1
During stage 1 of the infection you will constantly make pain sounds, the screen will blur frequently and you will have -50% stamina regeneration. Stage 1 lasts for about 20 minutes
Stage 2
During stage 2 of the infection you will make even louder pain sounds, a worse blur that happends even more frequently, get a fever, you will have -50% stamina regeneration, your hands start shaking intensively, you lose water ten times faster and lose 0.75 health every 13 seconds
This means that if you have full health you will die within 40 minutes of getting to stage 2. The infection lasts forever and needs to be cured by other means.
Treatment
Wound Infection can be cured by consuming Tetracycline Pills found in most medical buildings or if you are still in stage 1 of the infection you can disinfect the wound using Disinfectant Spray, Iodine Tincture or Alcoholic Tincture and the infection will go away very fast.
Prevention
Make sure to always disinfect your rags, bandage and Sewing Kit before using them. If these disinfected items get damaged they will no longer be disinfected so make sure they still have the Disinfected tag on them if you have taken damage.
